Aplastic Anemia Treatment

Aplastic anemia treatment encompasses therapies that restore blood-cell production or replace damaged bone marrow in this potentially life-threatening disorder. Because the condition often involves immune-mediated suppression of hematopoietic stem cells, immunosuppressive therapy with antithymocyte globulin and cyclosporine can reduce T-cell activity and allow marrow recovery. For eligible patients, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation replaces defective blood-forming cells with healthy donor cells, while transfusions, infection prevention, and other supportive measures manage immediate complications. Treatment selection depends on disease severity, patient health, age, and donor availability, making it central to hematology and the study of bone marrow biology.

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. The Goeckerman regimen, formulated for the treatment of psoriasis, consists of exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) light and application of crude coal tar (CCT). The following protocol is for the administration of Goeckerman therapy for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis.

A Point-of-Care Method with Integrated Decision Support Tool to Estimate Anemia at Population Level

An accurate hemoglobin estimation method is lacking at the point of care and may hinder population-based programs for treating anemia. Therefore, we developed a point-of-care method based on pooled capillary blood and an auto-analyzer integrated into a custom software application to categorize the hemoglobin values into different grades of anemia.

Rockwell Hardness Test and the Effect of Treatment on Steel

2023

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Hardness testing is one of the most universally valuable mechanical tests available to engineers, as it is both simple and relatively inexpensive for the wealth of information and data it produces. Hardness testing, generally in the form of a surface penetration test, is both quicker and less destructive than tensile testing. Hardness provides a linear relationship with tensile strength over a...
