Organ Transplant

Organ transplantation is the surgical transfer of a functioning organ from a donor to a recipient to replace tissue damaged by disease or injury, restoring essential physiological function. Success depends on compatibility between donor and recipient, especially blood-group and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching, while immunosuppressive drugs reduce T-cell activation and antibody-mediated attacks that can cause rejection. In biology and medicine, transplantation provides a model for studying immune recognition, inflammation, tissue repair, and host-graft interactions. It also treats end-stage organ failure, although limited donor supply, infection risk, and lifelong immune management remain major challenges.

Personalized Peptide Arrays for Detection of HLA Alloantibodies in Organ Transplantation

Cited by 2 •

2017

Mismatches in human leukocyte antigen (HLA) sequences between organ donor and recipient pairs are the major cause of antibody-mediated rejection in organ transplantation. Here we present the use of custom antigen arrays that are based on individual donors' HLA sequences to probe anti-donor HLA alloantibodies in organ recipients.

Cervical Heterotopic Mouse Heart Transplantation using End-to-side Anastomosis Technique to Study Transplant Immunology

This protocol presents a simplified, end-to-side suture anastomosis technique for murine cervical heart transplantation, providing a robust and reproducible model for studying transplant immunology.

Innovative Strategies for Organ Preservation in Heart Transplantation: Uniform Cooling Preservation and Ex-situ Normothermic Perfusion

2025

Donor heart preservation is a major determinant of success in heart transplantation. Technological advances have led to optimizing the conditions of preservation, along with a more accurate assessment of the donor heart before transplantation. We herein describe two innovative technologies currently applied for cardiac preservation: uniform cooling preservation and normothermic ex-situ heart perfusion.

Liver Cold Storage and Transplantation in the Cold-Adaptive Daurian Ground Squirrels
