Pars Intermedia

Pars intermedia is a thin region of the pituitary gland located between the anterior and posterior lobes, representing an intermediate lobe that is prominent in many vertebrates but relatively rudimentary in adult humans. Its melanotroph cells synthesize proopiomelanocortin (POMC), which enzymatic processing converts into melanocyte-stimulating hormones and other peptide products that influence pigment-related physiology. Studying the pars intermedia helps explain pituitary development, hormone processing, and species differences in endocrine regulation. It also provides biological context for Rathke’s pouch remnants and related lesions, including Rathke cleft cysts, in clinical and research settings.

RNA transcripts are subject to extensive posttranscriptional regulation that is mediated by a multitude of trans-acting RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). Here we present a generalizable method to identify precisely and on a transcriptome-wide scale the RNA binding sites of RBPs.

We explore the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to improve language abilities in patients with chronic stroke and non-fluent aphasia. After identifying a site in the right frontal gyrus for each patient that responds optimally to stimulation, we target this site during ten days of rTMS treatment.

Visualization and Quantitative Analysis of Genotoxin-Induced PARP1/PARP2 Activation in Cells Using a Fluorescent Fusion Protein-Based Reporter

Here, we describe a method for cell-based visualization, subcellular localization, and quantitative analysis of poly(ADP-ribose) (PAR) enriched foci in fixed mammalian cells. This assay enables the quantification of sites of DNA damage-induced PARP activation, including that associated with base excision repair or single-strand break repair, in the nuclei of genotoxin-exposed cells.
