Pharmacological Inhibitor Treatment

Pharmacological inhibitor treatment is the use of chemical compounds to reduce or block the activity of a specific biological target, such as an enzyme, receptor, or signaling protein. These inhibitors act by binding to a target site or altering its conformation, thereby preventing substrate conversion, ligand activation, or downstream signal transmission under defined experimental conditions. In biology, inhibitor treatment helps researchers test gene and protein function, dissect cellular pathways, and identify mechanisms underlying disease. Comparing treated and untreated cells or organisms can reveal target-specific effects, support drug discovery, and guide the development of therapeutic strategies.

Modelling Intratumoral Treatment with miRNA Inhibitors: A Method to Analyze the Effect of miRNA Inhibitors on Tumor Growth in Murine Model

2023

This video demonstrates the in vivo delivery of miRNA inhibitors as therapeutic agents against tumor growth in orthotopic mouse models. The intratumoral administration of synthetic miRNA inhibitors or antagomiRs allows them to bind and inhibit endogenous miRNAs, thereby causing mRNA upregulation and suppression of tumor growth.

Treatment for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors

2024

Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors are potent enzymes that function to hydrolyze cyclic nucleotides to their corresponding 5' monophosphates. Their unique biochemical properties have been applied in treating Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). Among the PDE5 inhibitors, sildenafil (Revatio) stands out as a competitive and selective inhibitor. It operates by elevating cellular levels of cGMP and augmenting signaling through the cGMP-PKG pathway, promoting vasodilation. Upon oral...

Eukaryotic Transcription Inhibitors

2020

Certain biochemical processes, such as embryonic development and cell growth regulation, depend on the repression of specific genes. DNA binding proteins known as eukaryotic transcription inhibitors regulate the repression of gene expression in eukaryotes. The presence of these inhibitors at the required location and time in the cell is triggered by the presence of hormones and additional signals from other cells. Eukaryotic transcription inhibitors usually contain two distinct domains, a DNA...

2024

This study illustrates the methodological potential of combining Yttrium-90 Trans-Arterial Radioembolization (Y-90 TARE) with an anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody as an effective neoadjuvant strategy leading to hepatectomy in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with a high initial recurrence risk. It emphasizes the safety, feasibility, and step-by-step procedural guidance of this approach.
