Plant Tissue Sections

Plant tissue sections are thin slices of plant material prepared for microscopic examination, allowing researchers to visualize cell organization and tissue structure. Samples are typically fixed to preserve morphology, embedded in a supportive medium, cut into uniform sections with a microtome or razor, and stained to increase contrast among cell walls, nuclei, vascular tissues, and other components. In biology, these sections support the study of plant anatomy, growth, transport, development, and responses to environmental stress or disease. By linking cellular structure with tissue function, plant tissue sectioning remains an essential method in histology, physiology, taxonomy, and agricultural research.

Plant Tissue Culture

2020

Plant tissue culture is widely used in both primary and applied science. Applications range from plant development studies to functional gene studies, crop improvement, commercial micropropagation, virus elimination, and conservation of rare species. Plant tissue culture depends on the ability of plant tissue to give rise to an entire new plant when provided with a growth medium and appropriate environment. This ability of plant cells or tissues is termed ‘totipotency.’ The fundamental steps...

In this video, we demonstrate the sectioning of a frozen mouse brain tumor tissue using a cryostat. The frozen brain tissue sections so obtained are stored at low temperatures until further analysis.

Immunolocalization of Arabinogalactan Proteins and Pectins in Plant Tissue

2025

This video demonstrates an immunostaining technique to localize arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) and pectins in plant tissues. Fixed and resin-embedded plant tissue sections are stained with AGP- and pectin-specific primary and fluorescent secondary antibodies and a cellulose-binding fluorescent dye to reveal their tissue-specific colocalization in the cell wall.
