Proof Of Concept

A proof of concept is an initial demonstration that a proposed idea, method, or technology can work as intended under defined conditions. In biology, researchers test a hypothesis on a limited scale by applying a specific intervention, measuring a defined response, and comparing the results with appropriate controls. Proof-of-concept studies can show whether a biological mechanism is plausible, a diagnostic assay can detect a target, or a therapeutic strategy produces a measurable effect. Although they do not establish complete safety, efficacy, or generalizability, these studies guide experimental refinement, support funding and development decisions, and determine whether larger investigations are warranted.

By adding a laugh...
