Pulsatile Flow Analysis

Pulsatile flow analysis is the study of fluid movement that changes periodically over time, providing a framework for understanding how biological fluids such as blood travel through vessels. It examines how pressure gradients, flow velocity, vessel resistance, and arterial elasticity shape waveforms produced by rhythmic pumping, particularly the heartbeat. In biology, these analyses help characterize circulation, relate flow patterns to vascular function, and identify changes associated with cardiovascular disease. Experimental measurements and computational models can also support investigations of tissue perfusion, hemodynamics, and engineered systems that replicate physiological flow conditions.

Pulmonary hypertension is associated with a significant reduction in pulmonary artery pulsatility, contractility and elasticity, contributing to an increase in pulmonary artery pressure and pulmonary resistance. Using a hypoxic piglet model, this study demonstrated that improving pulmonary artery plasticity using a newly developed pulsatile catheter improves hypoxic pulmonary hypertension.

2025

Free cash flow (FCF) is a critical indicator of a company’s financial flexibility and long-term viability. It represents the cash remaining after a firm covers its essential capital expenditures—funds used to maintain or expand physical assets like equipment, buildings, or technology.Calculating Free Cash FlowFree cash flow is calculated by taking the cash generated from operating activities and subtracting the company’s capital expenditures. This clearly measures how much cash remains after...

Many different methods exist for the measurement of extracellular vesicles (EVs) using flow cytometry (FCM). Several aspects should be considered when determining the most appropriate method to use. Two protocols for measuring EVs are presented, using either individual detection or a bead-based approach.
