Quartz Vete Exposure

Quartz exposure is the contact of a biological system with quartz, a crystalline form of silicon dioxide, and is important because inhaled particles can affect respiratory health. When respirable quartz particles reach the lungs, immune cells attempt to remove them, triggering persistent inflammation, oxidative stress, and signaling that can promote collagen deposition and tissue fibrosis. In biology and environmental health research, quartz exposure models help investigators examine cellular injury, immune responses, dose-dependent toxicity, and long-term pulmonary disease. These studies support occupational risk assessment, safer workplace practices, and the development of biomarkers or interventions for silica-related disorders.

Source: Paolone, G., et al. Personalized Needles for Microinjections in the Rodent Brain. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates a rodent brain microneedle injection using a quartz microneedle with holes. The microneedle is attached to a syringe and micropump to control the delivery rate. The needle with the injection solution is inserted into the brain with the delivery speed set at low. Once positioned, the delivery speed is increased. The needle is withdrawn after a brief pause.

A protocol is presented for the preparation of piezoelectric macroporous epitaxial films of quartz on silicon by solution chemistry using dip-coating and thermal treatments in air.

Laparoscopic Anatomic S7+S8d Resection Preserving Inferior Right Hepatic Vein and S6 with Right Hepatic Vein Transection

2025

We present a laparoscopic technique for anatomic S7+S8d resection with right hepatic vein transection, preserving the inferior right hepatic vein and segment S6. Relying on meticulous anatomical landmarks without intraoperative ultrasound, this approach offers a precise and parenchyma-sparing option for dorsally located right-liver tumors, particularly in settings with limited advanced navigation resources.
