Rfp Detection

RFP detection is the identification and measurement of red fluorescent protein, a genetically encoded reporter used to reveal gene expression, protein localization, and cellular activity. When illuminated with an appropriate excitation wavelength, RFP absorbs light and emits longer-wavelength red fluorescence, which instruments or fluorescence microscopy can distinguish from background using optical filters or spectral detection. In biology, this signal enables researchers to monitor transgene expression, track labeled cells, visualize protein distribution, and assess biological changes over time. Detection can support qualitative imaging as well as quantitative analyses, making RFP a versatile tool in cell biology, developmental studies, molecular biology, and biomedical research.

2009

We describe a novel red fluorescent protein (RFP) reporter that is expressed specifically in the Drosophila eye. We detail a methodology for dissection of the eye imaginal disc and how this reporter can be used to aid in the dissection and identification of specific cell types in the developing eye.

Source: Barber, A. E., et al. Preparation and Application of a New Bacterial Biosensor for the Presumptive Detection of Gunshot Residue. J. Vis. Exp. (2019).This video demonstrates the detection of specific analytes using a bacterial biosensor. A bacterial culture carrying a plasmid with a red fluorescent protein (RFP) gene under an analyte-sensitive promoter is taken. After thoroughly wiping the test surface, a small section of the wipe is immersed in the culture and incubated. The analyte...

Detecting SMAD Pathway Activation Using Dual Adenovirus Transduction

Source: Chen, H., et al. Live Cell Imaging of the TGF-β/Smad3 Signaling Pathway In Vitro and In Vivo Using an Adenovirus Reporter System. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates a method to study SMAD pathway activation in breast cancer cells using dual adenoviral infection. One virus delivers a constitutively expressed GFP gene, while the other carries an RFP reporter under a SMAD-sensitive promoter. Upon TGF-beta stimulation, SMAD proteins are activated, forming a complex that induces RFP...
