Shielding Targeting

Shielding targeting is a biological delivery strategy that combines surface protection with selective recognition to guide therapeutic or diagnostic cargo toward specific cells. A shielding layer, often formed by hydrophilic polymers or biomolecules, reduces nonspecific protein adsorption, immune recognition, and premature clearance, while exposed targeting ligands bind receptors on the intended cell type. This balance can improve circulation stability and promote receptor-mediated uptake after binding. In nanomedicine and molecular biology, shielding targeting supports more precise delivery of drugs, nucleic acids, and imaging agents, potentially reducing off-target effects and improving treatment efficiency. Its design remains important for developing safer, more selective delivery systems.

Diamagnetic Shielding of Nuclei: Local Diamagnetic Current

2024

An applied magnetic field causes the electrons present in the molecule to circulate, setting up a local diamagnetic current within the molecule. The local diamagnetic current arising from circulating sigma-bonding electrons induces a magnetic field, Blocal that opposes the applied magnetic field, B0. The effective magnetic field experienced by these nuclei is given by the difference between the applied and local magnetic fields in a phenomenon called local diamagnetic shielding. Essentially,...
