Sigma Universal Assay

Sigma Universal Assay is a standardized biochemical assay format used to measure the activity or concentration of a biological target under controlled laboratory conditions. The method combines a sample with defined reagents, allowing the target to drive a reaction that produces a measurable signal, which is interpreted by comparison with standards and controls. This workflow supports quantitative analysis while improving consistency between experiments. In biology, universal assay formats can aid enzyme characterization, sample screening, method validation, and comparative studies, providing researchers with reproducible measurements for investigating molecular function and evaluating biological responses.

Source: Ketron Mitchell-Wynne, PhD, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Legend states that Isaac Newton saw an apple fall from a tree. He noticed the acceleration of the apple and deduced that there must have been a force acting upon the apple. He then surmised that if gravity can act at the top of the tree, it can also act at even larger distances. He observed the motion of the moon and the orbits of the...

A simple slot blot method was developed for the quantification of influenza viral hemagglutinin and neuraminidase using universal antibodies targeting their most conserved sequences identified through bioinformatics analyses. This innovative approach may provide a useful alternative to quantitative determination of all viral hemagglutinin and neuraminidase.

Light from astronomical objects must travel through the earth's turbulent atmosphere before it can be imaged by ground-based telescopes. To enable direct imaging at maximum theoretical angular resolution, advanced techniques such as those employed by the Robo-AO adaptive-optics system must be used.
