Sterile Tissue Processing

Sterile tissue processing is the controlled handling and preparation of biological tissues under aseptic conditions to minimize microbial contamination and preserve tissue integrity. It uses sterilized instruments, disinfected work surfaces, appropriate protective practices, and carefully controlled handling during steps such as collection, trimming, rinsing, sectioning, or transfer. In biology, this approach supports reliable tissue culture, histological analysis, and other laboratory studies by reducing contamination that could alter cellular behavior or compromise results. Effective processing also helps maintain sample quality, improve experimental reproducibility, and protect personnel from exposure to biological material.

Burch in their book The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique. The 3 R's are replacement, reduction, and refinement of the use of animals in research. The use of cell lines and tissue cultures that originated from research animals is a replacement technique, as it allows for many experiments to be conducted in vitro. Harvesting...

2012

Electrospun scaffolds can be processed post production for tissue engineering applications. Here we describe methods for spinning complex scaffolds (by consecutive spinning), for making thicker scaffolds (by multi-layering using heat or vapour annealing), for achieving sterility (aseptic production or sterilisation post production) and for achieving appropriate biomechanical properties.

A method to process human mammary surgical discard material is described. Processed tissue, in the form of organoids, can be stored frozen indefinitely or placed in culture for long-term growth. This method enables experimental examination of normal human epithelial cell biology, and the effects of exogenous perturbations.

Cleaning, Sterilization, and Disinfection

Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization are the methods that help to break the infection chain and prevent disease. Cleaning The cleaning process usually involves using water with detergents or enzymatic cleaner and removing foreign material from objects and surfaces, including organic material such as body fluids or inorganic material like soil. Cleaning is performed before high-level disinfection and sterilization because foreign materials on the cover of the devices interfere with process...

Methods of Sterilization II: Chemical Methods

In healthcare, the chemical method of sterilization uses chemical sterilants to treat surgical instruments and medical supplies to help prevent the transmission of infectious pathogens to patients. Due to heat sensitivity, most medical supplies and equipment should not be exposed to high temperatures. These parts include rubber, plastic, glass, and other similar elements. Using chemical sterilization rather than heat to clean out equipment is recommended. It eradicates and removes all bacteria,...
