Superficial Veins

Superficial veins are blood vessels located within the subcutaneous tissues that return deoxygenated blood from the skin and limbs toward the heart, making them important for circulation and clinical access. Unlike arteries, they operate under low pressure and use one-way valves, skeletal-muscle contractions, and pressure changes during breathing to promote venous return against gravity. Their connections with deep veins help distribute blood, while changes in skin blood flow support thermoregulation. In biology and medicine, superficial veins are studied through venous anatomy, blood sampling, intravenous access, and conditions such as varicose veins, where weakened valves or impaired return cause pooling and vessel enlargement.

Non-invasive assessment of endothelial function in humans can be determined by the flow-mediated dilation technique. Although thousands of studies have used this technique, no study has performed this technique non-invasively in rats. The following article describes non-invasive measurement of flow-mediated dilation in the brachial and superficial femoral arteries of rats.

Veins are an integral part of our circulatory system, serving as the blood vessels that transport blood from all body regions to the heart. They are a network of hollow tubes that carry blood low in oxygen from the body's cells back to the heart for reoxygenation. Veins are crucial for maintaining the body's overall fluid balance and the continuous circulation of blood. Structure of Veins: The structure of veins is specifically designed to assist in the low-pressure transportation of blood...

Laparoscopic Anatomic S7+S8d Resection Preserving Inferior Right Hepatic Vein and S6 with Right Hepatic Vein Transection

2025

We present a laparoscopic technique for anatomic S7+S8d resection with right hepatic vein transection, preserving the inferior right hepatic vein and segment S6. Relying on meticulous anatomical landmarks without intraoperative ultrasound, this approach offers a precise and parenchyma-sparing option for dorsally located right-liver tumors, particularly in settings with limited advanced navigation resources.
