Tissue Cysts

Tissue cysts are enclosed, fluid-filled, semisolid, or gas-filled structures that develop within organs or other biological tissues, making them important subjects in anatomy, pathology, and disease research. They form when secretions accumulate behind an obstructed duct, when tissue develops abnormally, or when organisms and inflammatory processes become surrounded by a protective capsule. Their size, contents, cellular lining, and surrounding tissue can vary widely, influencing whether they remain harmless, impair organ function, or indicate infection or other disease. Studying tissue cysts through histology, imaging, and laboratory analysis helps researchers understand tissue organization, diagnose disease, and evaluate appropriate clinical management.

Microscopic Cyst Resection for the Treatment of Patients Diagnosed with Epididymal Cyst

2023

Here, we present a protocol to treat patients diagnosed with an epididymal cyst using microscopic cyst resection. Based on microscopic manipulation, a largely improved visualization of the subtle tissue structures of the epididymis was obtained, so the cyst could be clearly dissected apart and completely removed intact.

Toxoplasma gondii Cyst Wall Formation in Activated Bone Marrow-derived Macrophages and Bradyzoite Conditions

Toxoplasma gondii converts to a cyst form in response to environmental stresses, which can be mimicked in tissue culture models. This video demonstrates techniques to examine cyst wall formation by activating bone marrow-derived macrophages or changing growth medium pH in fibroblast cells.

Endoscopic Approach for Colloid Cyst Resection

2025

This protocol details a minimally invasive endoscopic technique for the removal of third ventricular colloid cysts. It provides a comprehensive overview of preoperative preparations, surgical steps, and postoperative outcomes, emphasizing reduced recovery time, minimal complications, and total cyst removal. This approach is a safe and effective alternative to traditional microsurgery.

Three-dimensional (3D) cellular systems are relevant models for investigating organogenesis. A hydrogel-based method for biliary cysts production and their characterization is proposed. This protocol unravels the barriers of 3D characterization, with a straightforward and reliable method to assess cyst formation efficiency, sizes, and to test their functionality.

Laparoscopic Choledochal Cyst Excision and Roux-en-Y Choledochojejunostomy in Adults

Choledochal cysts in adults are relatively rare, and few reports have detailed treatment options. Here, we present a case demonstrating laparoscopic resection of choledochal cysts and posterior colonic Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy in adults, offering an alternative for clinical management.
