Growth Rate Metrics

Growth rate metrics are quantitative measures that describe how quickly a population, tissue, or tumor changes over time, making them essential for comparing cancer progression and treatment response. Researchers calculate values such as percent change, growth curves, exponential growth rates, and doubling time from repeated measurements of tumor volume, cell number, or biomarker abundance. These metrics help distinguish aggressive from slower-growing cancers, assess whether a therapy reduces or stabilizes tumor growth, and support comparisons across models, patients, and experimental conditions. Careful measurement intervals and consistent analysis are important because growth rates can vary with treatment, microenvironment, and disease stage.

Begin with a turbidostat, a device that maintains a constant cell density in culture. The device contains a vessel with a bacterial culture, which is continuously aerated by stirring and maintained at a constant temperature.A laser diode emits a light beam that is split into two paths. One path is directed to a reference sensor to monitor laser intensity fluctuations, while the other passes through the culture.Bacterial cells scatter and absorb light, decreasing the transmitted intensity, which...

Promotion Metrics

2025

Businesses rely on various promotional metrics to gauge the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. Baseline sales represent the average sales without any promotional efforts, while incremental sales measure the increase in sales resulting from a promotion. For example, if a product typically sells 300 units and a promotion increases sales to 400 units, the incremental sales are 100. This distinction is crucial for evaluating the true impact of promotional activities. Impressions count the number...

Introduction to Marketing Metrics

When interpreting marketing metrics, it is crucial to align them with specific campaign goals to ensure the metrics are relevant to the objectives. For example, a high conversion rate might be significant, but the definition of a conversion can vary—whether it is a sale, a newsletter signup, or another desired action. Aligning metrics with campaign goals ensures they directly reflect the campaign's objectives. While metrics like click-through rates and return on investment are necessary,...

Product and Portfolio Metrics II

Product and portfolio metrics provide the necessary insights to optimize resources and drive profitability. Weighted Contribution Margin is a crucial metric for understanding the profitability of individual products relative to their share in the product mix. Calculated by multiplying the contribution margin of each product by its proportion in the total mix, it helps companies prioritize investment in high-margin items, like luxury apparel, that dominate sales. This metric also informs...
