Mouse Drug Delivery

Mouse drug delivery is the controlled administration of therapeutic compounds to mice for studying how drugs behave and produce biological effects, particularly in cancer research. Researchers select routes such as oral gavage, intravenous injection, or local administration to control dose, absorption, distribution, and exposure over time; standardized handling and dosing schedules support reliable comparisons. These studies help evaluate antitumor activity, pharmacokinetics, tolerability, and treatment response in tumor-bearing models before clinical testing. Careful delivery design also improves reproducibility and enables comparisons among small molecules, biologics, combination therapies, and targeted approaches.

Source: Zhan, J., et al. Non-invasive Strategies for Chronic Manipulation of DREADD-controlled Neuronal Activity. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates a non-invasive ophthalmic drug delivery method for targeted neuromodulation. The drug is delivered via eye drops, absorbed into the circulation, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and activates specific neuronal receptors.

After puncturing the aorta through the inferior vena cava (IVC) to create an aorto-caval fistula in the mouse, solution containing a drug is infused into the IVC via the same needle, followed by incubation. This method enables more robust drug delivery to the venous endothelium compared to the external route.

Canalostomy for Local Drug Delivery into the Inner Ear of an Adult Mouse

This video showcases canalostomy, a procedure that allows local drug delivery into the inner ear of a mouse through the semicircular canal with minimal damage to hearing and vestibular function. This method enables the inoculation of viral vectors, pharmaceuticals, and small molecules into the mouse's inner ear.

(2020)This video demonstrates the procedure of delivering an inducer drug into the cisterna magna of an anesthetized mouse. The injection selectively induces fluorescent marker expression in brain surface cells accessible via cerebrospinal fluid, confirmed by fluorescence imaging.

Osmotic Pump-Based Neurotherapeutic Drug Delivery in a Demyelinated Mouse Model

(2021)This video demonstrates the method for delivering neurotherapeutic drugs using an osmotic pump in a demyelinated mouse model. The controlled drug release promotes remyelination by activating myelin-producing cells in the corpus callosum.
