Fe(ii) Fe(iii) Quantification

Fe(II)/Fe(III) quantification is the analytical determination of iron concentration in its ferrous and ferric oxidation states, an important measurement for characterizing samples and monitoring redox chemistry. Depending on the method, iron is separated or selectively complexed with a ligand, and the resulting color or electron-transfer reaction is measured by spectrophotometry or titration; reducing or oxidizing agents can convert one oxidation state to the other for total-iron analysis. These measurements help assess water and soil chemistry, corrosion, mineral samples, and biological or industrial systems. Comparing Fe(II), Fe(III), and total iron also reveals oxidation-state changes and supports reaction and environmental studies.

Here, we present a protocol to synthesize and characterize Fe-doped aluminosilicate nanotubes. The materials are obtained by either sol-gel synthesis upon addition of FeCl3•6H2O to the mixture containing the Si and Al precursors or by post-synthesis ionic exchange of preformed aluminosilicate nanotubes.
