Mild Conditions

Mild conditions in chemistry are reaction settings that use relatively low temperatures and pressures, near-neutral pH, or less aggressive reagents to achieve a desired transformation while limiting damage to sensitive molecules. Chemists control factors such as solvent, catalyst, concentration, temperature, and reaction time so the intended pathway proceeds without requiring highly corrosive, toxic, or energy-intensive conditions. These approaches help preserve functional groups, reduce side reactions, and improve compatibility with complex substrates. Mild conditions support organic synthesis, pharmaceutical development, biomolecule modification, and greener chemical processes by improving selectivity, safety, and the practical handling of reactions.

Fear Conditioning

2023

Fear Conditioning is a type of learning in which an association is established between a negative unpleasant event and a harmless stimulus. This leads to a fear of the harmless stimulus. This process is largely mediated by the amygdala, which is a brain region involved in emotions and stress reactions. Fear conditioning can be utilized in several ways to understand different aspects of learning and memory. This video presents an overview of the principles behind fear conditioning, discusses the...

A multi-faceted approach to investigating functional changes to hippocampal circuitry is explained. Electrophysiological techniques are described along with the injury protocol, behavioral testing and regional dissection method. The combination of these techniques can be applied in similar fashion for other brain regions and scientific questions.
