Single Terminated Surfaces

Single terminated surfaces are solid interfaces whose outermost atomic layer is capped by one dominant chemical species, creating a more uniform surface composition and reactivity. This termination occurs when surface atoms bind to the same element or functional group, satisfying dangling bonds and changing properties such as surface energy, electronic structure, wettability, and chemical stability. In chemistry and materials research, controlled termination helps scientists tune adsorption, interfacial reactions, corrosion resistance, and compatibility with deposited films or biological molecules. Studying these surfaces clarifies how atomic-scale composition governs macroscopic behavior and supports the design of catalysts, sensors, electronic materials, and other functional interfaces.

Termination of Translation

2020

The large ribosomal subunit has several important structures essential to translation. These include the peptidyl transferase center (PTC) - which is the site where the peptide bond is formed - and a large, internal, water-filled tube through which the nascent polypeptide moves. This latter structure is called the Peptide Exit Tunnel, and it begins at the PTC and spans the body of the large ribosomal subunit. During translation, as the nascent polypeptide chain is synthesized, it passes through...

We describe a method for passivating a glass surface using polyethylene glycol (PEG). This protocol covers surface cleaning, surface functionalization, and PEG coating. We introduce a new strategy for treating the surface with PEG molecules over two rounds, which yields superior quality of passivation compared to existing methods.
