Tetrahydrofuran Thf

Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a five-membered cyclic ether and a versatile polar aprotic solvent widely used in chemistry. Its ether oxygen provides lone pairs that coordinate with metal cations, allowing THF to solvate ionic and organometallic reagents while supporting many substitution, reduction, and coupling reactions. THF mixes readily with water and many organic compounds, making it useful for dissolving reactants and controlling reaction conditions in laboratory synthesis. It is also an important solvent for polymerization, extraction, and the preparation of reagents such as Grignard compounds, although its flammability and tendency to form peroxides require careful storage and handling.
