Clinical Diagnosis

Clinical diagnosis is the systematic process of identifying a disease, disorder, or health condition from a patient’s signs, symptoms, history, and test results. Clinicians form and compare differential diagnoses by integrating information from physical examination, laboratory tests, imaging, and other investigations, then assessing how well each possibility explains the observed findings. An accurate diagnosis guides treatment selection, supports risk assessment and prognosis, and helps clinicians monitor response to care or detect disease progression. In clinical research and practice, standardized diagnostic criteria also improve communication, enable meaningful comparisons across patients, and support the evaluation of new diagnostic methods.

Isolated Musculus gastrocnemius tightness is a common cause for foot and ankle pathologies. Currently no standardized examination procedure exists. This manuscript demonstrates that 20 degree of knee flexion eliminates the restraining effect of the M. gastrocnemius on ankle dorsiflexion and presents a video description of a standardized examination protocol.

Cutaneous tumors are often discarded following Mohs micrographic surgery. A protocol is described here that enables clinical support staff to effectively process and store cutaneous tumor (e.g., squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma) samples for downstream laboratory applications without interfering with clinical operations.

Following assessment, a nursing diagnosis is the next step in the nursing process. It begins after the nurse has collected and recorded the patient data. The purpose of diagnosing is to identify how the client responds to actual or potential health processes, identify factors that bestow or that cause health problems, the etiologies, and identify resources or strengths the individual, group, or community can draw on to prevent or resolve problems. The nursing diagnosis focuses on evidence-based...
