Probe Cover Application

Probe cover application is the clinical technique of placing a protective barrier over an examination or imaging probe before use, helping support hygienic practice and reduce the risk of transferring contaminants between the probe, patient, and environment. The cover is positioned to fully enclose the probe’s patient-contacting surface while maintaining the probe’s intended function and access to the target area. Correct application includes selecting a compatible cover, minimizing folds or trapped air, and securing it without damaging the device. This technique is relevant to procedures involving reusable probes and supports infection-control protocols, consistent examination quality, and safer clinical workflows.

2017

The development of new ultrasound (US) probes based on Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer (CMUT) technology requires an early realistic assessment of imaging capabilities. We describe a repeatable experimental protocol for US image acquisition and comparison with magnetic resonance images, using an ex vivo bovine brain as an imaging target.

This manuscript presents protocols for the application of novel genetically encoded nitric oxide (NO•) probes (geNOps) to monitor single cell NO• fluctuations in real-time using fluorescence microscopy. The Ca2+-triggered NO• formation on the level of individual endothelial cells was visualized by combining geNOps with a chemical Ca2+ sensor.
