Nonlinear Elements

Nonlinear elements are engineering components whose output is not directly proportional to their input, making them essential for representing systems with changing, threshold-dependent, or state-dependent behavior. Their response can arise from mechanisms such as saturation, hysteresis, dead zones, switching, or a nonlinear constitutive relationship, where small input changes may produce disproportionate effects or no response until a threshold is reached. Engineers use nonlinear elements in circuits, control systems, mechanical structures, sensors, and signal-processing devices to model real-world behavior more accurately. Understanding these elements supports stability analysis, simulation, system design, and the development of technologies that regulate energy, detect conditions, or respond adaptively to changing environments.

Nonlinear Pharmacokinetics: Causes of Nonlinearity

2025

Nonlinearity in drug pharmacokinetics is caused by various factors influencing how a drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted. Understanding these nonlinear processes is crucial for predicting drug behavior in the body and optimizing drug dosing regimens. Nonlinear drug absorption can occur when the process is rate-limited by solubility, carrier-mediated transport systems, or saturation of the presystemic gut wall or hepatic metabolism. For instance, high doses of riboflavin...

Periodic Classification of the Elements

The periodic table arranges atoms based on increasing atomic number so that elements with the same chemical properties recur periodically. When their electron configurations are added to the table, a periodic recurrence of similar electron configurations in the outer shells of these elements is observed. Because they are in the outer shells of an atom, valence electrons play the most important role in chemical reactions. The outer electrons have the highest energy of the electrons in an atom...

2016

Saturable and reverse saturable scattering were discovered in isolated plasmonic particles and adopted as a novel non-bleaching contrast method in super-resolution microscopy. Here the experimental procedures of detecting and extracting nonlinear scattering are explained in detail, as well as how to enhance resolution with the aid of saturated excitation microscopy.

Classification of Elements and Compounds

2020

Pure substances consist of only one type of matter. A pure substance can be an element or a compound. An element consists of only one type of atom, while a compound consists of two or more types of atoms held together by a chemical bond. Elements are classified as atomic or molecular based on the nature of their basic units. Compounds are pure substances composed of two or more elements in fixed, definite proportions. Compounds are classified as ionic or molecular (covalent) based on the bonds...

Introduction to Nonlinear Inequalities

2025

Linear and nonlinear inequalities are fundamental for analyzing variable relationships and identifying ranges satisfying specific conditions. A linear inequality involves variables raised only to the first power, resulting in a straight-line graph. This line partitions the coordinate plane into two distinct regions: one that satisfies the inequality and one that does not. Each region represents a set of solutions where the linear relationship holds true under the specified constraint.Nonlinear...
