Dynamic Key Generation

Dynamic key generation is the process of creating cryptographic keys when they are needed rather than relying on a fixed, long-term key, improving the security and adaptability of engineered communication systems. It typically uses a cryptographically secure random-number generator, protocol inputs, or a key-derivation function to produce session-specific keys from entropy and authenticated parameters. Systems can rotate these keys automatically, limiting the impact of key exposure and supporting confidentiality, authentication, and forward secrecy. Engineers apply dynamic key generation in network protocols, cloud services, embedded devices, and access-control systems where changing participants, threats, and operating conditions require secure, scalable key management.

Tree Identification: How To Use a Dichotomous Key

2023

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University A dichotomous key is a tool that identifies items in nature, such as leaves. This method is based on the idea of choosing between two characteristics. The word dichotomous comes from two Greek words that mean “to divide into two parts.” In a dichotomous key for leaf identification, each pair of phrases describes different features of the leaf. Only one of the phrases correctly applies to the leaf being keyed out. The...

We present a microfluidic system for high throughput studies on complex life machinery, which consists of 1500 culture units, an array of enhanced peristaltic pumps and an on-site mixing modulus. The microfluidic chip allows for the analysis of the highly complex and dynamic micro-environmental conditions in vivo.

Key Elements for Plant Nutrition

2026

Like all living organisms, plants require organic and inorganic nutrients to survive, reproduce, grow and maintain homeostasis. To identify nutrients that are essential for plant functioning, researchers have leveraged a technique called hydroponics. In hydroponic culture systems, plants are grown—without soil—in water-based solutions containing nutrients. At least 17 nutrients have been identified as essential elements required by plants. Plants acquire these elements from the atmosphere, the...
