Electronic Digital Level

An electronic digital level is a precision instrument that measures and displays the inclination or slope of a surface relative to gravity, providing more quantitative readings than a traditional bubble level. Its internal tilt sensors, typically based on accelerometer technology, detect the direction of gravitational acceleration; onboard electronics convert this signal into an angle, slope percentage, or height difference, often with digital calibration and visual or audible indicators. In engineering, electronic digital levels support construction alignment, structural inspection, surveying, machinery installation, and quality control, helping users verify tolerances, document measurements, and improve accuracy in field and laboratory work.

2018

We use an aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope to define single-digit nanometer patterns in two widely-used electron-beam resists: poly (methyl methacrylate) and hydrogen silsesquioxane. Resist patterns can be replicated in target materials of choice with single-digit nanometer fidelity using liftoff, plasma etching, and resist infiltration by organometallics.

A method is described whereby quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles can be used for correlative immunocytochemical studies of epoxy embedded human pathology tissue. We employ commercial antibody fragment conjugated QDs that are visualized by widefield fluorescence light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.

Electron Affinity

2020

The electron affinity (EA) is the energy change for adding an electron to a gaseous atom to form an anion (negative ion). This process can be either endothermic or exothermic, depending on the element. Many of these elements have negative values of EA, which means that energy is released when the gaseous atom accepts an electron. However, for some elements, energy is required for the atom to become negatively charged, and the value of their EA is positive. Just as with ionization energy,...

Electron Carriers

2019

Electron carriers can be thought of as electron shuttles. These compounds can easily accept electrons (i.e., be reduced) or lose them (i.e., be oxidized). They play an essential role in energy production because cellular respiration is contingent on the flow of electrons. Over the many stages of cellular respiration, glucose breaks down into carbon dioxide and water. Electron carriers pick up electrons lost by glucose in these reactions, temporarily storing and releasing them into the electron...

High-Level and Low-Level Awareness

Controlled processes in human consciousness represent high-alert mental states where individuals deliberately focus their attention on achieving specific goals. Controlled processes can be seen in situations like mastering new technology, where a person might become so absorbed that they ignore surrounding distractions. Such processes involve selective attention, requiring one to concentrate on particular elements of experience while disregarding others. These are governed by executive...
