Elongated Aggregates

Elongated aggregates are clusters of particles, droplets, or other building units whose length exceeds their width, giving them an anisotropic shape that differs from compact aggregates. They form when constituent units join preferentially along one direction or when forces such as flow, confinement, or field-induced alignment reshape an initially disordered assembly. In engineering, their geometry influences packing, transport, sedimentation, flow resistance, and mechanical behavior in suspensions, composites, and particulate materials. Characterizing aggregate dimensions, orientation, and stability helps researchers connect microscale interactions with bulk performance and optimize processing conditions for advanced materials and engineered systems.

Transcription Elongation Factors

2020

Transcription elongation is a dynamic process that alters depending upon the sequence heterogeneity of the DNA being transcribed. Hence, it is not surprising that the elongation complex's composition also varies along the way while transcribing a gene. The transcription elongation is regulated via pausing of RNA polymerase on several occasions during transcription. In bacteria, these halts are necessary because the transcription of DNA into mRNA is coupled to the translation of that mRNA into a...

2016

Here we detail protocols specifically designed to monitor morphogenic defects that occur during early and late phases of embryonic elongation of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. Ultimately, these protocols are designed to identify genes that regulate these phases and to characterize their differential requirements along the antero-posterior axis of the embryo.

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Concrete and asphalt are by far the most common construction materials used today. Concrete is a composite material consisting of cement, water, air, coarse aggregate, and fine aggregates. Fine aggregates are typically sands and coarse aggregates are natural or crushed rocks. Chemical admixtures to modify certain specific properties are also commonly used (i.e., superplasticizers to make the...

Methods to Study Changes in Inherent Protein Aggregation with Age in Caenorhabditis elegans

The goal of the method presented here is to explore protein aggregation during normal aging in the model organism C. elegans. The protocol represents a powerful tool to study the highly insoluble large aggregates that form with age and to determine how changes in proteostasis impact protein aggregation.
