Fluid Flow Analysis

Fluid flow analysis is the study of how liquids and gases move through and around systems, structures, and devices, providing essential insight for engineering design and performance. It examines relationships among velocity, pressure, density, viscosity, and geometry by applying conservation of mass, momentum, and energy, often with analytical models, experiments, or computational fluid dynamics. Engineers use these methods to predict turbulence, pressure losses, drag, heat and mass transfer, and flow-induced forces in pipelines, pumps, aircraft, vehicles, and industrial equipment. The results support safer designs, improved efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and optimization of complex fluid systems.

2023

Source: Joseph C. Muskat, Vitaliy L. Rayz, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana The objective of this video is to describe recent advancements of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations based on patient- or animal-specific vasculature. Here, subject-based vessel segmentations were created, and, using a combination of open-source and commercial tools, a high-resolution numerical solution was determined within a flow model.

Steady Flow of a Fluid Stream

Consider a control volume, such as a pipe with solid boundaries, through which fluid flows and changes direction due to the impulse exerted by the resulting force from the pipe walls. In steady flow, the mass of fluid entering the control volume at a given time, t, with velocity v1, is equal to the mass leaving after infinitesimal time dt, with velocity v2. During this process, the momentum of the fluid within the control volume remains constant over the time interval dt. By applying the...

Identification and Enumeration of Immune Cells in Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid by Flow Cytometry

This video demonstrates the use of flow cytometry to identify and count various immune cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Initially, single immune cells are identified using a viability dye, followed by differential staining of surface marker proteins, enabling the precise enumeration of each cell type.

A method for mass spectrometric analysis of endogenous peptides in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is presented. By employing molecular weight cut-off filtration, chromatographic pre-fractionation, mass spectrometric analysis and a subsequent combination of peptide identification strategies, it was possible to expand the known CSF peptidome nearly ten-fold compared to previous studies.
