Half-bat

Half-bat is a brick masonry unit made by cutting a standard brick across its length, producing a piece approximately half as long as the original. In bonded masonry, it is placed at wall ends and corners to adjust the running bond, maintain staggered vertical joints, and prevent continuous planes of weakness as courses are laid. Half-bats support accurate alignment, efficient material use, and stable load distribution in brick walls, partitions, and other masonry construction. Their placement is especially important where wall geometry changes, helping connect courses while preserving the strength and appearance of the finished structure.

Mammalian integument contains solvent-extractable lipids that can provide chemical compositions characteristic of individual species. This paper presents a routine method for separating broad lipid classes isolated from integumentary tissues using thin layer chromatography and determining the triacylglyceride profile by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
