Horizon 2020 Downtoten

DownToTen is a Horizon 2020 research project focused on reducing road-traffic noise and improving the acoustic performance of future transport systems. It combines methods for characterizing tire-road interaction, vehicle noise, and sound propagation with predictive modeling and validation under realistic operating conditions, targeting reductions of up to 10 decibels. The project connects quieter tires and road surfaces with vehicle and infrastructure design, providing engineering data and assessment tools for evaluating noise-control strategies. Its outcomes support quieter, more sustainable mobility and guide the development of technologies that reduce community exposure to transport noise.

2012

A reliable and repeatable way to produce a cervical unilateral spinal cord injury using the Infinite Horizon impactor is described. The method takes advantage of a custom designed frame and clamp to stabilize the spine. The standardized procedure and biomechanical injury parameters result in sufficient and sustained injuries.

Schwarzschild Radius and Event Horizon

No object with a finite mass can travel faster than the speed of light in a vacuum. This fact has an interesting consequence in the domain of extremely high gravitational fields. The minimum speed required to launch a projectile from the surface of an object to which it is gravitationally bound so that it eventually escapes the object’s gravitational field is called the escape velocity. The escape velocity is independent of the mass of the object. Merging the idea of escape velocity with the...

Effect of Time Horizon and Other Factor on Elasticity of Demand

2024

Elasticity is not static but evolves over time. As market conditions, consumer preferences, and external factors shift, so does the degree to which demand responds to price changes. Some of the important factors affecting price elasticity are: Time: Over time, as consumers adapt, demand generally becomes more elastic. For example, when fuel prices rise and environmental concerns grow, consumers may gradually switch from gasoline-powered cars to more energy-efficient or electric vehicles.

2016

Repeated soil sampling has recently been shown to be an effective way to monitor forest soil change over years and decades. To support its use, a protocol is presented that synthesizes the latest information on soil resampling methods to aid in the design and implementation of successful soil monitoring programs.

Data Processing Methods for 3D Seismic Imaging of Subsurface Volcanoes: Applications to the Tarim Flood Basalt
