Nanoparticle Growth

Nanoparticle growth is the process by which nanoscale particles form and increase in size through the addition and organization of atoms, molecules, or smaller clusters. It typically involves nucleation, followed by surface deposition, diffusion, coalescence, or aggregation, with growth controlled by factors such as temperature, precursor concentration, reaction time, and stabilizing agents. In engineering, controlling these conditions helps tailor nanoparticle size, shape, composition, and surface properties. Such control supports the design of catalysts, sensors, electronic materials, energy-storage components, and biomedical technologies, while improving reproducibility and performance in scalable manufacturing.

Type B gelatin-based engineered nanovectors system (GENS) was developed for systemic gene delivery and transfection in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. By modification with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) specific peptide on the surface of nanparticles, they could target on EGFR receptor and release plasmid under reducing environment, such as high intracellular glutathione concentrations.
