Silicon Inks

Silicon inks are liquid formulations that enable silicon-based materials to be patterned directly onto substrates, supporting scalable fabrication of electronic, sensing, and energy-related devices. Their composition can include silicon nanoparticles or molecular precursors dispersed with solvents and functional additives; printing methods such as inkjet, aerosol, or screen printing place controlled features, while drying and thermal treatment form connected silicon structures. In engineering, these inks support flexible electronics, printed sensors, photovoltaic components, and microscale fabrication. By reducing material waste and enabling additive processing on unconventional substrates, silicon inks expand approaches to low-cost, customizable device manufacturing.

Analysis of rodent cerebrovascular anatomy plays an important role in experimental stroke research. In this context, intravascular perfusion with colored latex has been considered as a standard tool for several years. However, this technique implies distinct technical limitations, which undermine its reproducibility. Here, we describe a simple method to visualize cerebral vessels in a reproducible manner. Injection of a mixture of two commercially available carbon black inks through the left...

Here we describe a simple method for patterning oxide-free silicon and germanium with reactive organic monolayers and demonstrate functionalization of the patterned substrates with small molecules and proteins. The approach completely protects surfaces from chemical oxidation, provides precise control over feature morphology, and provides ready access to chemically discriminated patterns.
