Spur Gears

Spur gears are cylindrical gears with straight teeth parallel to their rotational axes, used to transmit motion and torque between parallel shafts. As the teeth engage, their involute profiles maintain a nearly constant velocity ratio while transferring force through successive contact points; proper alignment, tooth spacing, lubrication, and load selection help limit noise and wear. In engineering, spur gears support speed reduction or increase in mechanisms such as clocks, conveyors, robotics, and machine tools. Their simple geometry makes them efficient, economical, and relatively easy to manufacture, although they can generate more noise and vibration than helical gears at higher speeds.
