Globe Sun Photometer

A Globe Sun Photometer is an instrument that measures direct sunlight at selected wavelengths to characterize atmospheric conditions, especially aerosol pollution and visibility. As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, gases and airborne particles absorb and scatter radiation; the photometer detects the resulting reduction in solar intensity, which supports calculation of aerosol optical depth through the Beer–Lambert relationship. Environmental researchers and monitoring networks use these measurements to track dust, smoke, haze, and other changes in atmospheric aerosols, while comparing ground-based observations with satellite data and atmospheric models. The resulting records support air-quality assessment, climate studies, and evaluation of atmospheric transport.

The goal of the methods presented here is to measure aerosol optical thickness of the atmosphere. The sun photometer is pointed at the sun and the largest voltage reading obtained on an in-built digital voltmeter is recorded. Atmospheric measurements such as barometric pressure and relative humidity are also performed.

A Simplified Technique for In situ Excision of Cornea and Evisceration of Retinal Tissue from Human Ocular Globe

The paper describes a simplified technique to excise corneal and to eviscerate retinal tissues from the ocular globe of human cadaveric donors. The technique described here will help to excise good quality tissues to be used for transplantation, surgical or research purposes without damaging other tissues of the ocular globe.

Thorough grossing and standardized sectioning of non-neoplastic globes are important for obtaining high-quality reproducible histopathologic sections. Guidelines for a standardized grossing of adult and fetal non-neoplastic globes are provided herein. Different options for globe sectioning are demonstrated and discussed, including criteria for case-based decision-making.

Live-Cell Imaging of Intact Ex Vivo Globes Using a Novel 3D Printed Holder

The present work describes a novel experimental protocol that utilizes a 3D printed holder to enable high-resolution live cell imaging of enucleated globes. Through this protocol, the cellular calcium signaling activity in wounded corneal epithelium from ex vivo globes can be observed in real time.
