Travelling Salesperson Problem

The Travelling Salesperson Problem (TSP) is an optimization problem that seeks the shortest possible route through a set of locations, visiting each exactly once before returning to the starting point. A solution represents locations as nodes in a weighted graph and searches for a minimum-cost Hamiltonian cycle; because exact methods become computationally difficult as the number of locations grows, larger problems often use heuristic or approximation methods. In environmental research and management, TSP models can organize routes for field sampling, habitat surveys, waste collection, and environmental monitoring, reducing travel distance, fuel use, time, and associated emissions while preserving required site coverage.

Travelling Waves

2023

A wave is a disturbance that propagates from its source, repeating itself periodically, and is typically associated with simple harmonic motion. Mechanical waves are governed by Newton's laws and require a medium to travel. A medium is a substance in which a mechanical wave propagates, and the medium produces an elastic restoring force when it is deformed. Water waves, sound waves, and seismic waves are some examples of mechanical waves. For water waves, the wave propagation medium is water;...

Traveling Waves: Lossless Lines

2024

The provided content explores the behavior of traveling waves on single-phase lossless transmission lines. It begins with a single-phase two-wire lossless transmission line of length Δx, characterized by a loop inductance LH/m and a line-to-line capacitance C F/m. These parameters result in a series inductance LΔx and a shunt capacitance CΔx. The voltage v(x,t) and current i(x,t) at any position x and time t on the line are expressed using Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL) and Kirchhoff's Current...

Persuasion Strategies

2020

Researchers have tested many persuasion strategies, including the foot-in-the door and the door-in-the-face techniques, in a variety of contexts. Ultimately, the principles are effective in selling products and changing people’s attitude, ideas, and behaviors (Cialdini & Goldstein, 2004). Get Your Foot in the Door The first effective strategy is the foot-in-the-door technique (Cialdini, 2001; Pliner, Hart, Kohl, & Saari, 1974): If a persuader—such as a salesperson—gets an individual...

2018

Salmonella spp./Shigella spp. are common pathogens attributed to diarrhea. Here, we describe a high-throughput platform for the screening of Salmonella spp./Shigella spp. using real-time PCR combined with guided culture.

Tracking Morphogenetic Tissue Deformations in the Early Chick Embryo

This article describes surface labeling and ex ovo tissue culture in the early chick embryo. Techniques amenable to time-lapse bright field, fluorescence, and optical coherence tomography imaging are presented. Tracking surface labels with high spatiotemporal resolution enables kinematic quantities such as morphogenetic strains (deformations) to be calculated in both two and three dimensions.
