Chorionic Villi Enrichment

Chorionic villi enrichment is a laboratory method for concentrating fetal chorionic villus tissue from a prenatal sample while reducing contaminating maternal cells. In genetics, enrichment typically relies on physically identifying and separating villous fragments from maternal decidua, followed when needed by cell dissociation or culture to obtain material suitable for analysis. It improves the quality and reliability of DNA, chromosomal, and molecular data used to investigate fetal karyotype, copy-number changes, and inherited variants. By providing a more representative fetal cell population, the approach supports prenatal diagnosis and research while helping distinguish fetal findings from maternal genetic background.
