Mosquito Sample Analysis

Mosquito sample analysis is the examination of mosquito specimens and their genetic material to identify species, measure genetic variation, and investigate traits relevant to disease transmission. In genetic studies, researchers extract DNA or RNA from whole mosquitoes or selected tissues, then apply methods such as polymerase chain reaction, genotyping, or DNA sequencing to detect target regions and compare sequence patterns. These analyses support species identification, population-structure studies, and the detection of genetic markers associated with insecticide resistance or pathogen carriage. The resulting data help researchers monitor vector populations, clarify transmission risk, and inform targeted mosquito-control strategies.

We report using an artificial intronic small RNA expression strategy to develop a non-defective recombinant Aedes aegypti densovirus (AaeDV) in vivo delivery system. A detailed procedure for the construction, packaging, and quantitative analysis of the rAaeDV vectors as well as for larval infection is described.

Due to the striking similarities of the life cycle and biology of rodent malaria parasites to human malaria parasites, rodent malaria models have become indispensable for malaria research. Herein, we standardized some of the most important techniques used in the phenotypic analysis of wild-type and transgenic rodent malaria species.
