High-throughput Format

High-throughput format is an experimental approach that processes many samples or reactions in parallel, enabling rapid generation of comparable data at scale. It typically combines miniaturized assays, automated liquid handling, standardized workflows, and quantitative readouts to increase sample capacity while reducing reagent use and processing time. In immunology and infection research, high-throughput formats support screening for pathogen-specific antibodies, measuring immune-cell responses, evaluating host-pathogen interactions, and identifying candidate therapeutics or diagnostic markers. Their standardized design improves reproducibility and makes it possible to compare large numbers of conditions, samples, or biological targets efficiently.

This protocol describes a highly sensitive and high throughput neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) assay for the semi-automated quantification of ex vivo NET formation by immunofluorescence three-dimensional confocal microscopy. This protocol can be used to evaluate NET formation and degradation after different stimuli and can be used to study potential NET-targeted therapies.
