Nano Well Arrays

Nano well arrays are patterned surfaces containing large numbers of nanoscale wells that organize cells, molecules, or particles into discrete compartments for parallel analysis. Their confined geometry limits diffusion between neighboring wells, enabling controlled cell positioning, localized reactions, and measurement of signals from individual or small groups of cells. In immunology and infection research, these arrays support high-throughput studies of immune-cell activation, cytokine secretion, pathogen interactions, and cell-to-cell variability. By linking defined microscale environments with sensitive single-cell measurements, nano well arrays can reveal heterogeneous host responses and help evaluate antimicrobial or immunomodulatory strategies.

We present a protocol to functionalize glass with nanometric protein patches surrounded by a fluid lipid bilayer. These substrates are compatible with advanced optical microscopy and are expected to serve as platform for cell adhesion and migration studies.

Fabrication and Operation of a Nano-Optical Conveyor Belt

The scalability and resolution of conventional optical manipulation techniques are limited by diffraction. We circumvent the diffraction limit and describe a method of optically transporting nanoparticles across a chip using a gold surface patterned with a path of closely spaced C-shaped plasmonic resonators.

2023

We present a graphene array-based brain mapping procedure to reduce the invasiveness and improve spatiotemporal resolution. Graphene array-based surface electrodes exhibit long-term biocompatibility, mechanical flexibility, and suitability for brain mapping in a convoluted brain. This protocol allows for constructing multiple forms of sensory maps simultaneously and sequentially.
