Virus Reduction Technique

Virus reduction techniques are methods used to lower viral contamination or infectivity in biological materials, laboratory samples, and manufactured products, supporting safer research and clinical applications. They work by physically removing virus particles, chemically or physically inactivating viral components, or combining sequential steps that target properties such as particle size, envelope stability, or heat sensitivity. In immunology and infection research, these approaches help protect cell cultures, characterize viral persistence, and improve the safety of plasma-derived and other biologic products. Measuring reduction across relevant virus types also supports process validation and infectious-risk control.

A Technique for the Generation of Influenza Virus-Like Particles via a Mammalian System

2025

This video demonstrates the generation of influenza virus-like particles (VLPs) in a mammalian system. Upon expressing three eukaryotic expression vectors — encoding different viral structural proteins — in suitable mammalian host cells, the expressed viral proteins self-assemble into VLPs on the host plasma membrane and release via budding from the cell surface.

Virus Plaque Assay: A Technique to Measure Infectious Herpes Simplex Virus via Quantification of Plaques Formed in Monolayer of Virus-Infected Cells

Oxidation-Reduction Reactions

2020

Oxidation–Reduction Reactions Earth’s atmosphere contains about 20% molecular oxygen, O2, a chemically reactive gas that plays an essential role in the metabolism of aerobic organisms and in many environmental processes that shape the world. The term oxidation was originally used to describe chemical reactions involving O2, but its meaning has evolved to refer to a broad and important reaction class known as oxidation–reduction (redox) reactions. Some redox reactions involve the transfer of...
