Whole Number Renaming

Whole number renaming is the process of expressing a whole number in an equivalent form while preserving its value. It uses place value and regrouping to exchange units, such as rewriting 1 hundred as 10 tens or representing 347 as 34 tens and 7 ones; the quantity remains unchanged because each place has a defined base-ten value. This concept supports addition and subtraction with regrouping, strengthens understanding of the decimal system, and helps students connect concrete models, expanded notation, and standard numerals. In mathematics education, whole number renaming builds flexible number sense and prepares learners for work with larger numbers, decimals, and algebraic representations.

The goal of this protocol is to continuously monitor the dynamics of the human pancreatic islet engraftment process and the contributing host versus donor cells. This is accomplished by transplanting human islets into the anterior chamber of the eye (ACE) of an NOD.(Cg)-Gt(ROSA)26Sortm4-Rag2-/-mouse recipient followed by repeated 2-photon imaging.
