Anterior Circulation Stroke

Anterior circulation stroke is an ischemic or hemorrhagic injury affecting brain regions supplied primarily by the internal carotid, middle cerebral, or anterior cerebral arteries. Ischemic events occur when a thrombus or embolus obstructs blood flow, depriving neural tissue of oxygen and producing an infarct, while vessel rupture can cause bleeding and pressure-related damage. Clinical effects depend on the affected territory and may include unilateral weakness or numbness, language impairment, visual field loss, or neglect. Rapid neurological assessment and brain imaging guide thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, blood pressure management, and secondary prevention, improving outcomes while supporting research on cerebrovascular mechanisms and rehabilitation.

Fat pad aspiration is a preferred, minimally invasive, and low cost approach as compared to other methods to detect amyloid for diagnosis of systemic amyloidosis. This video article demonstrates a procedural outline for performing fat pad aspiration with appropriate processing of the specimen for the optimal diagnostic outcome.

Various murine models of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) are widely used in experimental brain research. Here, we demonstrate the model of transcranial permanent distal MCAO which produces consistent cortical infarction of a size corresponding to damage imposed by the majority of human ischemic strokes.
