Chronic Prostatitis Model

A chronic prostatitis model is an experimental system that reproduces persistent inflammation of the prostate and related pelvic or urinary symptoms, helping researchers study a condition with complex and sometimes poorly defined causes. These models maintain or induce prostatic inflammation through biological, chemical, or other experimental processes, allowing assessment of immune responses, tissue changes, pain signaling, and urinary dysfunction. In medicine, chronic prostatitis models support investigation of disease mechanisms and provide controlled platforms for evaluating anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, and other therapeutic strategies. Their findings can guide treatment development and improve understanding of how local inflammation contributes to long-term pelvic pain.

An Orthotopic Murine Model of Human Prostate Cancer Metastasis

2013

This orthotopic model of human prostate cancer allows for quantification of tumor size, circulating tumor cells, and formation of distinct metastasis to the lung. As cells must escape the primary organ, enter the blood stream, and implant into a secondary site, this model effectively recapitulates the scenario in humans.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. An orthotopic cancer model provides a useful approach to understand the biology of prostate cancer and to evaluate the efficacy of therapeutic regimens. This protocol describes detailed steps necessary to establish an orthotopic prostate cancer mouse model.

Measurement of Tactile Allodynia in a Murine Model of Bacterial Prostatitis

Infection of the prostate may be a contributing factor in mediating pelvic pain in chronic prostatitis. We describe the procedure for preparation of standardized bacterial inoculum, instillation of bacteria into the urethra of male mice and methodology for measuring tactile allodynia in mice over time.

We are measuring perigenital mechanical sensitivity and mast cell activation in the prostate of male C57BL/6 mice that underwent an early life stress paradigm – neonatal maternal separation, in order to induce a preclinical model of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome.

Modeling Prostate Cancer in Genetically-engineered Mouse Models: A CRISPR/Cas9-mediated Localized Gene Editing Technique in Mouse Anterior Prostate Lobe Cells
