Motor Deficit Model

A motor deficit model is a clinical or experimental framework used to represent impaired movement and investigate its causes, progression, and treatment. In medicine, researchers create or assess motor impairment by altering neural pathways involved in movement and measuring outcomes such as coordination, balance, strength, gait, or skilled performance under standardized conditions. These models help connect neurological damage or disease mechanisms with observable functional changes, supporting the evaluation of rehabilitation strategies, medications, and other interventions. By providing reproducible measures of motor function, motor deficit models are important for translational research in disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles.
