Colorectal Polyps

Colorectal polyps are abnormal growths that arise from the lining of the colon or rectum and may be benign, precancerous, or malignant. They develop when genetic and cellular changes disrupt normal regulation of epithelial cell proliferation, with adenomatous and serrated polyps following distinct pathways that can lead to colorectal cancer over time. Most polyps cause no symptoms, so screening methods such as colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and stool-based tests are important for detection. During colonoscopy, clinicians can remove many polyps through polypectomy, reducing cancer risk while providing tissue for histopathological evaluation and guiding follow-up care.

2014

Vocal fold polyps can disrupt vocal fold dynamics and thus can have devastating consequences on a patient's ability to communicate. Three-dimensional flow separation induced by a wall-mounted model polyp and its impact on the wall pressure loading are examined using particle image velocimetry, skin friction line visualization, and wall pressure measurements.

Generating PDOX Mouse Model of Colorectal Cancer: Studying Progression of Colorectal Cancer in a Murine Model

2023

This video describes the protocol for generating a patient-derived orthotopic xenograft colorectal cancer mouse model to study the progression of colorectal cancer cells in non-obese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficiency (NOD/SCID) mice. This murine model helps in understanding primary tumor growth and metastases pattern.

Two techniques can be used to establish this model: injection of a cancer cell suspension into the cecal wall or transplantation of a piece of subcutaneous tumor onto the cecum. This model is useful for studying the natural progression of colorectal cancer and testing new therapeutic agents against colorectal cancer.

2023

This video describes the detailed protocol for generating 3D organoids from murine-model derived colorectal cancer cells by propagating them on artificial extracellular matrix coated plates. These CRC organoids can be used as a model to study the primary growth of human tumor cells and metastasis.
