Drain Amylase Levels

Drain amylase levels are measurements of the digestive enzyme amylase in fluid collected from a surgical drain, commonly used to assess possible leakage from the pancreas or pancreatic duct. Amylase enters drain fluid when pancreatic secretions escape into the operative area, so clinicians interpret the concentration alongside serum amylase, drain output, symptoms, and imaging; persistently high values may indicate a postoperative pancreatic fistula or related leak. In medicine, monitoring drain amylase helps guide decisions about continued drainage, nutrition, imaging, and other management, supporting earlier recognition of complications after pancreatic and upper gastrointestinal surgery.

This video demonstrates the surgical isolation procedure of the inguinal draining lymph node from a mouse model. Incision of the abdominal region provides access to the inguinal lymph node, which is surgically harvested. The harvested translucent inguinal lymph node can be used for immunological studies.

A Dissection Method to Harvest Murine Popliteal Draining Lymph Nodes for Ex Vivo Imaging

This video demonstrates a dissection technique to harvest popliteal draining lymph nodes from the mouse hind legs. Lymph nodes play a critical role in bridging innate and adaptive immunity, and harvesting intact lymph nodes — with a preserved tissue structure and cellular viability — can help study local and systemic immune responses.

2025

This video describes the technique of intrathecal placement of a lumbar drain in a porcine ischemic model, which helps in draining the cerebrospinal fluid to a drainage system. The cerebrospinal fluid pressure is monitored by the drainage system, and fluid is drained to maintain a constant cerebrospinal fluid pressure.

Controlled processes in human consciousness represent high-alert mental states where individuals deliberately focus their attention on achieving specific goals. Controlled processes can be seen in situations like mastering new technology, where a person might become so absorbed that they ignore surrounding distractions. Such processes involve selective attention, requiring one to concentrate on particular elements of experience while disregarding others. These are governed by executive...
