Endometriotic Implant Resection

Endometriotic implant resection is a surgical technique that removes endometriosis lesions, or endometrial-like tissue growing outside the uterine cavity, to address disease-related pain and anatomical distortion. During the procedure, surgeons identify implants under direct visualization, separate them from surrounding structures, and excise or otherwise remove the affected tissue while aiming to preserve healthy organs. Often performed using minimally invasive laparoscopy, resection can help reduce lesion burden, treat adhesions, and provide tissue for histopathological evaluation. In medicine, the technique supports individualized management of endometriosis and may improve pelvic anatomy, although outcomes depend on lesion location, disease extent, and surgical approach.

2025

This video presents the surgical procedure for image-guided tumor resection and implantation of a bio-scaffold seeded with genetically engineered mesenchymal stem cells or MSCs expressing tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand or TRAIL. These therapeutic MSCs have the potential in treatment of brain tumors.

(2022)This video demonstrates the use of a minimally invasive resection system (MIRS) to excise tumor tissue from an anesthetized mouse implanted with a tumor. The procedure involves securing the mouse onto a stereotactic frame, reopening the previous surgical site to access the brain, and inserting a specialized cannula that utilizes suction and a...

Source: Rennert, R. C., et al. Comprehensive Endovascular and Open Surgical Management of Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformations. J. Vis. Exp. (2017).This video demonstrates the open surgical resection of a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in a human brain. The procedure involves creating a bone flap, accessing the subarachnoid space, identifying and occluding feeding arteries and draining veins, and carefully removing the AVM. Intraoperative angiography confirms complete resection,...

Tumor-seeking therapeutic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) show promise as a treatment for invasive glioblastoma. Optimal transplantation involves delivery of MSCs into the tumor resection cavity on scaffolds. Here, preclinical techniques to study MSC treatment of glioblastoma are provided including: image-guided tumor resection; implantation of MSC-seeded scaffolds; and postoperative therapy tracking.
