Infinite Horizon Impactor

The Infinite Horizon Impactor is a specialized laboratory device used to create reproducible traumatic brain injury (TBI) in animal models, supporting controlled study of injury mechanisms and treatment responses. In a controlled cortical impact procedure, the instrument drives a calibrated tip against the exposed dura through a craniotomy, while parameters such as impact velocity, depth, and dwell time regulate the resulting deformation and injury severity. Researchers use this standardized model to investigate acute and chronic consequences of TBI, compare neuroprotective interventions, and relate behavioral, histological, and molecular outcomes to defined mechanical insults in medicine.

2012

A reliable and repeatable way to produce a cervical unilateral spinal cord injury using the Infinite Horizon impactor is described. The method takes advantage of a custom designed frame and clamp to stabilize the spine. The standardized procedure and biomechanical injury parameters result in sufficient and sustained injuries.

Generating a Mouse Model of Traumatic Brain Injury Using an Impactor Device

This video demonstrates the procedure for inducing traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a mouse model. An anesthetized mouse with an exposed skull is taken to create an opening in the skull, and then a controlled cortical injury is induced using an impact device. The injury damages the brain tissue, causing impaired cognitive function and motor coordination.

Generating a Traumatic Brain Injury Mouse Model Using an Impactor Probe

This video demonstrates the procedure for inducing an open-skull traumatic brain injury in a mouse by making a midline skull incision, drilling through the skull and removing the bone flap to expose the brain cortex, and applying high pressure to induce trauma. The wound is then sutured to prepare the mouse model for subsequent experiments.

Introduction to Infinite Series

2026

An infinite series is the sum of an infinite sequence of terms. Instead of adding only a fixed number of values, the addition continues without end. To make sense of this process, mathematicians examine partial sums, which are running totals formed by adding the first few terms of the series. If these partial sums approach a fixed number, the infinite series is said to converge. If they do not approach a finite value, the series diverges. The water tank example illustrates convergence through...

Infinitely Repeated Games

2025

An infinitely repeated game is a scenario where players repeatedly engage in the same game without a predetermined end. This concept is crucial in understanding long-term interactions in various fields of the social sciences, including economics and international relations. Examples: Firms Setting Prices: Companies continuously adjust prices. Trade Negotiations: Countries consistently negotiate trade terms. Tit-for-Tat Strategy Cooperative Start: Players begin with a cooperative action,...
