Local Injection

Local injection is a medical technique in which a drug or other therapeutic substance is delivered directly into a selected tissue or anatomical site, concentrating treatment where it is needed while limiting wider exposure. Using a syringe and needle, clinicians place the material into a defined location such as the skin, soft tissue, joint, or muscle; its effects depend on the substance, dose, and tissue response, including temporary interruption of nerve signaling by local anesthetics. Local injection supports procedures requiring regional pain control and can deliver anti-inflammatory or other treatments to targeted areas. Accurate site selection, sterile technique, and appropriate dosing help improve effectiveness and reduce complications.

Supramolecular hydrogelators based on ureido-pyrimidinones allow full control over the macroscopic gel properties and the sol–gel switching behavior using pH. Here, we present a protocol for formulating and injecting such a supramolecular hydrogelator via a catheter delivery system for local delivery directly in relevant areas in the pig heart.

A protocol for the non-invasive intraductal delivery of aqueous reagents to the mouse mammary gland is described. The method takes advantage of localized injection into the nipples of mammary glands targeting mammary ducts specifically. This technique is adaptable for a variety of compounds including siRNA, chemotherapeutic agents and small molecules.
