Lung Pathology Detection

Lung pathology detection is the identification and characterization of abnormal structural or cellular changes in lung tissue that may indicate infection, inflammation, fibrosis, or cancer. It combines clinical assessment with imaging, bronchoscopy, tissue biopsy, and microscopic examination, while specialized stains or molecular tests can reveal pathogens, abnormal cell features, or disease-associated biomarkers. In medicine, these methods help distinguish similar respiratory disorders, determine disease extent and severity, and guide treatment selection. Accurate detection also supports prognosis, monitoring of therapeutic response, and research into the mechanisms underlying pulmonary disease.

Noninvasive Intratracheal Intubation to Study the Pathology and Physiology of Mouse Lung

Cited by 22 •

2013

The use of a model that mimics the condition of lung diseases in humans is critical for studying the pathophysiology and/or etiology of a particular disease and for developing therapeutic intervention. Here a noninvasive intratracheal intubation method that can directly deliver exogenous materials to mouse lungs is presented.

Detection of Targetable Alterations in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer using Next-generation Sequencing

This protocol describes an automated, ISO15189-accredited next-generation sequencing workflow for detecting targetable genomic alterations in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues.

Pathological Analysis of Lung Metastasis Following Lateral Tail-Vein Injection of Tumor Cells

Intravenous injection of cancer cells is often used in metastasis research, but the metastatic tumor burden can be difficult to analyze. Herein, we demonstrate a tail-vein injection model of metastasis and include a novel approach to analyze the resulting metastatic lung tumor burden.

Lung Instillation and Fixation: Introducing Liquid into the Trachea and Fixing Lungs to Measure the Fixed Lung Volume

Here we present a protocol to simply and reliably measure the lung pressure-volume curve in mice, showing that it is sufficiently sensitive to detect phenotypic parenchymal changes in two common lung pathologies, pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema. This metric provides a means to quantify the lung’s structural changes with developing pathology.
