Murine Corneal Model

A murine corneal model is a mouse-based experimental system used to study corneal structure, function, injury, and disease in a controlled biological context. Researchers examine the transparent cornea in vivo or use isolated tissue, applying defined injuries, infections, genetic changes, or treatments and then assessing epithelial repair, inflammation, stromal remodeling, and barrier function through imaging, histology, and molecular analyses. Because mice permit controlled perturbation and measurable healing responses, these models help clarify mechanisms of ocular disease, evaluate therapeutic strategies, and connect cellular findings with whole-tissue outcomes. Their results can guide preclinical research while requiring careful consideration of species-specific differences.
